Tisha B'Av 5785

This year, Tisha B’Av falls on Motzaei Shabbat and Sunday, which brings with it a number of unique halachot (laws) and practices. Below is a guide to help you prepare, along with our schedule for Shabbat Chazon (August 1–2) and Tisha B’Av (August 3).

On Tisha B’Av, we refrain from:

  • Eating and drinking

  • Bathing or washing for pleasure

  • Applying lotions or perfumes

  • Wearing leather shoes

  • Engaging in sexual relations

  • Greeting others

  • Studying Torah, except for sections related to mourning and destruction

There will be a designated space available at the Shtiebel for those who are halachically required to eat. If you have any questions about the fast, please reach out to Rabbanit Fruchter.

May this Tisha B’Av deepen our compassion and bring us closer to wholeness, healing, and redemption. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions
