At the Shtiebel, you don't have to be a builder to belong.
From April 14 to May 21 (Shavuot) 2026, every new Buildership and every increase to existing Builderships will be matched dollar-for-dollar up to $10,000. For information on how increase your existing Buildership, click here. Information on new Builderships below.
Buildership is the way our community takes shared responsibility for sustaining and shaping the Shtiebel. It is a partnership rooted in the idea that everyone should be able to participate fully, regardless of financial ability, and that everyone can have a meaningful opportunity to support our community. It’s income that we can rely on, from year to year - and it is largely on the basis of these contributions that we are able to budget from one year to the next.
Builderships maintain every part of our shared life, from the Rabbanit's support during lifecycle events to our beloved physical space where we daven, study, gather, and celebrate. These donations support the food and ingredients that turn our space into an incredibly nourishing Shabbat lunch in South Philadelphia each week. They ensure that the Shtiebel remains open and accessible for all who seek connection here.
Whomever you are in relation to our beloved community, whether you're here every day and Shabbat, connected from a distance, giving generously, or giving what you can - we are asking you to join us as a Builder. This is how we sustain what we've built together.
The levels below are intended to offer guidance for those who want a clearer sense of how their contribution sustains the community. Every donation, at any level, strengthens the Shtiebel and ensures that it remains a vibrant and welcoming spiritual home for all.

Tomchei Shtiebel is a circle for those with the capacity to support our mission and community in a next level kind of way. Tomchei Shtiebel is a philanthropic partnership, and a meaningful act of tzedakah for those who want to invest in our community's future beyond their own household's relationship with the Shtiebel.

What is Buildership? Buildership is the Shtiebel’s opt-in subscription model that allows the community to share financial responsibility for sustaining and shaping all aspects of Shtiebel life, from the Rabbanit's teaching and support during life cycle events to our beloved physical space where we daven, study, gather, and celebrate.
Can I donate through a donor-advised fund (DAF) or by check? Yes! Send an email to Neal@southphiladelphiashtiebel.org to get this set up.
Are there membership dues at the Shtiebel? There are no membership dues at Shtiebel. All you have to do to “belong” at the Shtiebel is show up…to daven, to learn, to volunteer. The cost of attendance, whether on a Tuesday morning or Kol Nidre evening, is $0. That principle is central to who we are.
